Definitions
- the present invention relates to a silencer, in particular rear silencer, for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, in particular a motor vehicle engine, comprising a casing comprising a shell and two end walls, at least one exhaust gas inlet opening and at least one exhaust gas outlet opening and at least substantially housed in the housing silencer elements. It further relates to a method for producing such a silencer.
- Such mufflers are used as standard in motor vehicles in particular in order to reduce the noise level generated by the vehicle engine.
- a sleeve has hitherto been inserted into the jacket and a weld is made within the jacket.
- a welding within the shell is at least difficult, in particular in the case of a mounting of the silencer transverse to the direction of travel of the relevant motor vehicle.
- the publication DE 20 2007 010 754 U1 describes a muffler for the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine having a housing comprising a shell and two end walls and housed in the housing muffler elements.
- the muffler elements comprise an outlet pipe piece, which extends with one end through a shell-side exhaust gas outlet opening of the housing to the outside.
- the exhaust gas outlet opening is provided in a separately manufactured from the shell and then connectable with this closure plate through which a recess provided in the jacket can be closed.
- Other conventional mufflers for exhaust systems of internal combustion engines are in the publications DE 10 2004 059 540 B3 and DE 10 2005 026 376 A1 described.
- the invention has for its object to provide an improved muffler of the type mentioned, which is particularly easy to install, especially in a transverse installation.
- the silencer elements accommodated at least substantially in the housing comprise an inlet or outlet pipe section which is connected to a first end in a shell-side exhaust gas inlet. or exhaust gas outlet opening of the housing opens or extends through the latter to the outside, and that this Abgaseintritts- or exhaust outlet opening is provided in a separately manufactured from the jacket, then connectable with this closure plate, through which provided in the shell, in a shell end opening opening closable is.
- the muffler is particularly suitable for a transverse installation in the relevant motor vehicle. While the at least one exhaust gas inlet or exhaust gas outlet opening is provided on the shell side, the at least one exhaust gas outlet or exhaust gas inlet opening can be provided in particular on at least one of the two end sides.
- the muffler elements to be accommodated at least essentially in the housing, including the inlet or outlet pipe piece can be pushed into the jacket from the relevant jacket end side. In this case, these muffler elements can already be firmly connected to each other before, for example, welded. Welding within the shell is therefore not required.
- the recess provided in the jacket can then be closed by the closure plate, which is manufactured separately from the jacket and provided with the exhaust gas inlet or exhaust gas outlet opening.
- the silencer elements to be accommodated at least substantially in the housing are designed as a prefabricated, in particular dimensionally stable insert, separate from the jacket.
- This encompassing the at least substantially housed in the housing silencer elements Insert can then be inserted from the adjacent to the recess, then closable by a first end wall shell end side forth in the longitudinal direction of the housing in the jacket.
- the insert which is prefabricated separately from the casing, preferably comprises a support element which can be inserted into the casing in the sliding seat and to which the inlet or outlet pipe piece is firmly connected.
- the inlet or outlet pipe piece can therefore be connected in advance firmly with this support element. Welding within the shell is therefore no longer necessary.
- the inlet or outlet pipe piece is connectable via the closure plate with the shell.
- the insert via the connection of the inlet pipe piece with the closure plate and the connection of the closure plate with the shell in the shell can be fixed.
- the closure plate can already be connected to the inlet or outlet pipe piece, in particular welded, before or only after the insert has been inserted.
- the closure plate can then be fixedly connected to the jacket, in particular welded again.
- the jacket can in particular be longitudinally folded and / or welded.
- At least the first end wall is subsequently also welded, ie after the insertion of the silencer elements or of the comprehensive insert into the jacket, with the jacket. It can thus be welded all in one. So now all welds can be made by a single robot in a single operation be, which brings a particularly cost-effective production or assembly with it.
- the closure plate can be made larger than the recess, whereby an optimal closure of the recess is ensured and the stability is increased.
- the closure plate can also be made thicker than the jacket, which in turn results in a higher stability.
- the jacket can be made substantially thin-walled, thus weight is saved.
- the closure plate is provided with a collar.
- this collar can enclose at least a part of the outwardly extending end of the inlet or outlet pipe piece, resulting in particular again a higher stability.
- such a collar is also conceivable when the inlet or outlet tube piece opens into the gas inlet or gas outlet opening provided in the closure plate.
- the insert may in particular also comprise one or more further tube pieces firmly connected to the support element.
- a first chamber in particular a reflection chamber, and between between the support element and the first end wall adjacent to the closure plate the support member and the second end wall, a second chamber, in particular resonance chamber formed.
- the support element comprises two partitions having a spacing from one another in the housing longitudinal direction, between which a third chamber is formed, which may in particular be an absorption chamber.
- the partition wall provided between the first and third chambers preferably has a perforation, via which the first chamber communicates with the third chamber.
- the partition wall provided between the second and the third chamber is preferably not perforated.
- the inlet or outlet pipe piece may in particular have a perforation, via which it is connected to the first chamber.
- the insert preferably comprises one or more further tube pieces fixedly connected to the support element, which are respectively connected to the first chamber via a perforation, extend through the support element or the third chamber and through the second chamber, and in each case into one in the second Front wall provided gas outlet or gas inlet opening.
- one, two or even a plurality of such, each in a provided in the second end wall gas outlet or gas inlet opening pipe sections may be provided.
- one or more further firmly connected to the support member pipe pieces are conceivable, each in a in the first end wall provided gas outlet or gas inlet opening.
- the inlet or outlet pipe piece can pass through the support element or the third chamber and open with its second end in the second chamber.
- the insert comprises a resonance tube piece which is inserted at one end into the second end of the inlet or outlet tube piece and opens at its other end into the second chamber formed as a resonance chamber.
- the cross section of the resonance tube piece can be smaller than the cross section of the inlet or outlet tube piece in particular.
- the resonance tube piece can be supported in the second chamber via at least one connecting element on at least one pipe piece which opens into a gas outlet or gas inlet opening.
- the inventive method for producing a muffler according to the invention is characterized in that the at least substantially be housed in the housing silencer elements including the inlet or outlet pipe piece are prefabricated as particular dimensionally stable use separately from the jacket, that the jacket is made with a opening into a mantle end recess in that a closure plate having the exhaust gas inlet or exhaust gas outlet opening is manufactured separately from the jacket, that the insert is inserted in the jacket in the longitudinal direction of the housing in the jacket adjacent to the recess, then closable by an end wall in the longitudinal direction of the housing and that the recess provided in the jacket is then closed by the closure plate having the exhaust gas inlet opening, wherein the closure plate connected to the jacket, in particular welded becomes.
- the closure plate can already be connected, in particular welded, in advance or else only after the insert has been inserted, with the end of the inlet or outlet tube piece which opens out into the exhaust gas inlet or exhaust gas outlet opening or outwards through the latter.
- the silencer according to the invention can in principle be used both as a pre, main or as a rear muffler. Preferably, however, is the use as a rear muffler.
- the silencer according to the invention is particularly suitable for transverse installation. An exit is conceivable on one or both ends.
- Fig. 1 shows a schematic longitudinal sectional view of an exemplary embodiment of a muffler 10, in particular rear muffler, for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, in particular motor vehicle engine.
