- EP 1 642 098 B1 teaches that the deviation of the visual color impression of multicolored patterned areas from a reference area can be described by simultaneously using both n-channel color statistics (n-channel
- Color histograms or derived therefrom key figures such as mean values, variances, etc. and the global image sharpness (spatial frequency bandwidth) with the aid of imaging color-capable sensors (color cameras, imaging Spekrometer u.ä) and a corresponding evaluation of the n-channel color images generated by these imagers and displayed become.
- the primary color impression of, for example, a decorative paper after the printing line is significantly changed by the subsequent process steps of impregnation, the pressing under pressure and temperature compression with the support (fiberboard, etc.), the 3D texturing by embossed patterns.
- the primary color impression of a panel decorated in direct (analog) printing is changed by the protective layers applied in the subsequent process steps (UV-curing lacquers often mixed with corundum).
- the produced decoration after the first production step usually the actual printing process, referred to as "primary decor” and the decor after the considered further process steps up to an intermediate product or to the end product as “secondary decor”.
- EP 1 642 098 B1 can only provide information on the stability of the primary color impression during a specific production job and / or compared to the color impression of primary decor references (non-impregnated decor paper samples, non-resist coated direct printed panels, etc.). ) deliver.
- the printer does not yet have any information available to what extent the secondary color impression relevant for the final product quality or after further process steps will deviate from the (secondary) references specified by the customer. He is therefore still forced, for example, to remove primary decorative paper samples during a print job, impregnate them in the test laboratory and press with a fibreboard sample, allow to cool and then visually secondary with these secondary decor paper samples
- analog and digital decor print must be handled similarly cumbersome. It is necessary to wait for the coating process steps subsequent to printing in order to obtain a running sample which can be compared with the customer's reference to the color impression.
- Such a prediction method could apply directly to the decorating process such as decor paper or decorative foil printing, analog or digital direct printing measurable on the production line descriptive parameters, the primary color printing inform the printer directly whether the current production is still within the tolerances of the secondary Colorimetry without the need for time-consuming preparation of laboratory impregnations and pressings to produce secondary decor samples.
- Such a prediction method could, purely mathematically, calculate the images of the primary decoration which are not yet physically formed on the decoration process, such as decorative paper printing or decorative film printing, analogue or digital direct printing, which can be scanned on the production line Printer to inform immediately whether the current production is still within the tolerances of the secondary color impression.
- Such a prediction process would also significantly speed up the process of color matching, ie, the adjustment of the required primary color impression in a new print job to produce a desired secondary color impression, as the pre-calculated, secondary images are continually updated during adjustment of the print engines from the color images taken in the line Color impression determining features like the predicted color statistics and the predicted focus will be displayed, guiding the printer in the process of setting the primary decoration.
- a) in a first multistage process step as a reference for the primary decoration and the resulting secondary decoration suitable samples are detected with at least one imaging sensor, the image signals are transmitted to a computing unit, from the image signals to the arithmetic unit and methods of image processing Characteristics for the description of the color impression of the decoration of the samples are determined that from the
- Comparison of the values of the characteristics for the description of the color impression of the primary decoration and the values of the characteristics for the corresponding description of the Color impression of the secondary decoration prediction rules are determined, which translate as closely as possible the feature values for the description of the color impression of the primary decoration in those for the description of the color impression of the secondary decoration and that these prediction rules are stored in a database under the corresponding product
- the prediction rules Secondary Decor images from Primary Decor calculate images and from these predicted images the characteristics for describing the primary decoration
- Color impression of the secondary decor is calculated, displayed and compared with the applicable for the secondary decor tolerances.
- Fig. 1 shows the understanding of the process chain in the production of floor laminates -17-, which consist essentially of a fiberboard -16-, on which at high pressure and temperature impregnated with melamine, in multi-color gravure -12- decorative paper produced -11- by means of a short-cycle or through-press -15- is pressed and the two essential for the control of the visual color impression process stages: decorative paper printing (primary decor) -13- and pressed melamine-impregnated decor (secondary decor) -18 -
- FIG. 2 illustrates, on the example of a 3-dimensional RGB color histogram -21-, the change in the 3-dimensional color histogram -23- of the primary decoration -17- into the corresponding 3-dimensional one
- Color histogram -22- of the secondary decoration -13- through the process steps of impregnation with melamine and pressing following the multicolor printing of the primary decor paper. This change can be made mathematically by the
- Fig. 3 illustrates the current graphical display -31- the stability of the color impression of the primary decor ⁇ CPrimärDekor, plotted against the produced web length -32- and the stability of the by means of the transformation T [PDH (r, g, b)] predicted color impression of Secondary decor ⁇ C secondary decor with the tolerances -33- displayed, which must be observed for the secondary decor.
- T PDH (r, g, b)] predicted color impression of Secondary decor ⁇ C secondary decor with the tolerances -33- displayed, which must be observed for the secondary decor.
- the production of decorative paper begins with an unprinted roll of special paper -11-, which is usually printed in a multi-color gravure printing process -12-.
- this primary decor paper can be inspected directly in the production line by color cameras -13- or visually on the basis of samples taken by the printer to obtain a first statement about the primary color impression.
- EP 1 642 098 Bl describes by way of example a method according to the prior art for instrumental, metrological detection of the visual primary color impression with the aid of color cameras, in which the combined evaluation of n-dimensional color statistics and / or their characteristics and the sharpness of the Primary decor is measured continuously.
- the decorative paper is prepared for pressing.
- a continuous or short-cycle press - 15- is impregnated under high temperature and pressure Decor paper with the actual Tägermaterial -16-, usually a fiberboard, pressed.
- the inventive idea teaches the changes in the visual color impression between the primary decoration -13- and Predicting the secondary decor -17- by Prediktionsregeln which applied to images of the primary decor already at the observatory -13-, ie immediately on the printing process, the printer about the expected deviations of the visual color impression of the final product, the secondary decor, inform him and thereby make it possible to instantly introduce and evaluate targeted countermeasures without the time-consuming process of laboratory impregnation and laboratory compression.
- the method according to the invention assumes that the stability of the processes following the primary pressure, in the example the impregnation and the compression, is sufficient to determine sufficiently stable prediction rules on the basis of a small number of samples of the primary and secondary decoration to be able to.
- the inventive idea also covers the determination and application of prediction rules, which are not only specific to a particular decor, but also specific to a specific setting of the processes subsequent to the printing, for example for certain melamine formulations, certain pressure / temperature / time settings the press etc ..
- a primary decor sample -13- and the associated secondary decor sample -17- are taken with a 3-channel imager, such as an RGB color camera. These recordings can be made in the production line with appropriately calibrated color cameras at the measuring points -13- and -17- or else on the basis of samples taken with an external image generator, for example an RGB flatbed scanner.
- a 3-channel imager such as an RGB color camera.
- At least one color image of the primary decoration -13- and the secondary decoration -17- are transferred to a computing unit (not shown) with which the respective 3-channel color statistics -21- are calculated from these images.
- Figure 2 shows by way of illustration the 3-dimensional color histogram of the primary decoration and the secondary decoration, shown graphically as two color clouds -23- and -22- in the common ⁇ RED, GREEN, BLUE ⁇ color space -21-. It is easy to see that the color statistics differ: the process of impregnation and compression has caused a change in the position of the respective color clouds in the color space.
- color histogram implies a 4-dimensional representation, that is to say the determination both of the occurring different color vectors in the camera image of the decoration and the frequency of each occurring color vector.
- this transformation T is used as a prediction rule in order to continuously determine the color impression characteristics of the ink sheet measured according to the printing process over the produced web length lfm
- the color impression of the primary decoration changes when the center of gravity of the color histogram of the primary decoration changes in comparison to the center of gravity of the color histogram of a reference of the primary decoration.
- the scalar magnitude difference ⁇ Cp r i mar decor of the focal points is plotted in Fig. 3 as a graphic -31- the current deviation as a function of the produced web length -32-.
- This deviation trend line shows the printer immediately how stable his printing process is and thus how stable the color impression of the primary decoration is.
- the printer can not judge from this the decisive tolerance of the fluctuations of the color impression of the secondary decoration for the customer.
- the continuous measurement of the primary decoration he has no reliable information about the quality and tolerance of the final product produced, the secondary decoration.
- the inventive method is also able to come to a much faster when entering a new production order, the so-called.
- Color Matching as according to the, characterized by numerous sampling and laboratory impregnation and -pressions procedure according to the prior art.
- the concept of the invention is of course not limited to the color impression feature "color histogram" and its key figures such as center of gravity, variance, etc., but relates to all relevant to the visual impression, from a n-channel image of the decor measurable color impression-Mermale such as image sharpness, contrast Sensitivity functions, etc. (See, for example, M. Fairchild: Color Appearance Models, 2nd edition, 2005, John Wiley & Sons Ltd. for a listing of the so-called CIECAM features for assessing the color impression).
- Essential for the inventive concept is the prediction of the color impression of the final product (of the secondary decoration) by transformation of the print line measurable color impression of the primary decor with the help of inventively created prediction rule and the display of these predicted color impression features on the
- the concept of the invention encompasses all decorated surfaces and all decorative methods suitable for this purpose, from classical multicolor gravure printing or offset printing via digital ink jet printing and other decoration methods such as overspraying, lamination of rolled-out colored plastic materials, etc.
- the inventive method is useful not only during the current production of a decoration, but also during the setting of a new decoration, the so-called. Color matching.
- the method according to the invention also makes it possible to decorate at any process locations
- Color impression features for the so-called primary decor to measure and convert these features into those that apply to a secondary decor.
- the primary decor can represent the print made decor on the neutral decor paper and the secondary decor the decor after impregnation.
- Essential to the inventive idea is the concept of the creation of prediction rules based on samples of a primary and a secondary decor and the application of these prediction rules in the test phase to early, i.e.. at the site of the primary decoration already to predict the quality of the secondary decoration.
- the method can also be used in the classic magazine, book and packaging printing, in which the printed product by further processes such as protective coating, paint finish, embossing, etc. after the actual multi-color printing is further changed.
- the process is limited to multi-color patterned elements such as color photographs, multicolor textures, etc., and monochrome text elements are hidden.
- n-channel images of the primary decoration are continuously recorded on the printing line, extracted therefrom color impression features and converted using the prediction rules in the color impression characteristics of the secondary decor, displayed and provided with tolerances.
- the process represents a considerable time saving and increase in productivity, since the deviations from the required final quality of the end product can already be represented directly on the printing process, interpreted accordingly by the printer, and thus early countermeasures can be taken.
