Definitions

  • the invention relates to a diffuser for a gas generator according to the preamble of claim 1. Furthermore, the invention relates to a gas generator with such a diffuser. The invention also relates to a gas bag module which has such a gas generator. The invention also shows a method for producing the diffuser.
  • a diffuser with the features of the preamble of claim 1 is known from EP 1 544 060 A1.
  • the known diffuser comprises an essentially tubular base body with a longitudinal axis, an impact cap axially connected to the base body at a first end of the diffuser and a connection device formed on a second end of the diffuser opposite the first end.
  • the known diffuser has radial openings in its tubular base body, through which a gas can flow out of the interior of the diffuser exclusively essentially in the radial direction, that is to say essentially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tubular base body of the diffuser.
  • a diffuser has the function of introducing gas generated and / or stored in a gas generator into a gas bag connected to or subsequently positioned on the diffuser.
  • the known diffuser has the disadvantage that the gas bag, which is usually located relatively close to the radial openings of the diffuser, is relatively heavily loaded by the gas flowing out of the diffuser exclusively in the radial direction, in particular with
  • a further object of the invention is to specify a gas generator with such a diffuser.
  • the invention also has the task of specifying a gas bag module and a vehicle safety system with a gas generator and a method for producing a diffuser for the gas generator.
  • this object is achieved with regard to the diffuser by the subject matter of claim 1, with regard to the gas generator by the The subject matter of claim 12, with regard to the gas bag module by the subject matter of claim 15, with regard to the vehicle safety system by the subject matter of claim 16 and with regard to the manufacturing method by the subject matter of claim 17.
  • the diffuser according to the invention for a gas generator accordingly has an essentially tubular base body with a longitudinal axis, a baffle cap axially connected to the base body at a first end of the diffuser and a connection device formed on a second end of the diffuser opposite the first end and is characterized in that in At least one outflow opening is formed on an outer wall of the tubular base body such that gas can flow out of the diffuser from the interior of the diffuser essentially parallel to the longitudinal axis in the direction of the first and second ends, the baffle cap being free of an outflow opening.
  • a tubular base body is to be understood here as meaning that the base body has an essentially cylindrical outer contour.
  • the term that "the impact cap is axially connected to the base body” should be understood to mean that the impact cap adjoins the base body in the axial direction, that is, along or parallel to the longitudinal axis of the base body, either as an additional component or in one piece with the base body.
  • Essentially parallel to the longitudinal axis should be understood to mean that a mean flow direction of the gas runs parallel to or at an acute angle of less than 45 ° to the longitudinal axis of the base body of the diffuser.
  • the advantage of the invention is, on the one hand, that the gas cannot flow from the area of the impact cap to an airbag or module housing located in the vicinity of the impact cap.
  • the impact cap of the diffuser represents an axial closure of the diffuser or a gas generator with such a diffuser, further components positioned close to the impact cap, such as the gas bag or module housing, are not impaired by thermal and / or mechanical loads.
  • the gas is advantageously not directed directly against an airbag, but along a folded airbag. By deflecting the main flow of the gas inside the diffuser through the impact cap, the main flow is also throttled.
  • the diffuser according to the invention can thus, for example, dispense with the use of a calzone already described above.
  • the diffuser according to the invention is inexpensive because it can be easily realized from. A circumferential clamp outside the diffuser that diverts the flow would result in higher manufacturing costs.
  • the at least one outflow opening is formed as a first outflow opening and as a second outflow opening and in particular the impact cap is dome-shaped, preferably as a spherical segment or spherical cap.
  • the outflow openings are expediently formed in such a way that the surface of the outflow opening has a surface normal which runs parallel to the longitudinal axis.
  • the first outflow opening and the second outflow opening are formed by a single tab, which is formed by two parallel incisions in the outer wall of the tubular base body running perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and deforming the area in between in a radially outward direction.
  • a tab can have a flat or curved surface.
  • An incision in the sense of the invention means that a cut or a corresponding material removal is made along or through the entire thickness of the outer wall of the base body, for example by cutting, sawing, milling or laser ablation, around a corresponding incision which extends radially along a certain area of the base body extends to generate.
  • the two incisions do not have to run geometrically exactly perpendicular to the longitudinal axis or parallel to one another, but can also run divergent to one another. However, when the area lying between the incisions is deformed, a correspondingly more complex tool design or tool guidance may then be necessary in order to produce the tab by deforming.

Then the diffuser with its connection point to the gas generator is molded or molded in, for example by rolling or crimping, so that a corresponding complementary recess is only formed on the diffuser by this assembly step.
  • a curvature of the elevations decreases towards the first and second outflow opening, so that a radial portion of a flow of the gas from the interior of the diffuser through the first and second outflow opening can be reduced and the flow can be formed essentially exclusively axially. This means that the elevation in an area spaced apart from the first or second outflow opening has the largest (radial)
  • the curvature in the axial direction causes a kind of gas deflection section which deflects the flow of the gas radially inwards to a small extent, at least in such a way that any radially outwardly directed flow components at the outflow openings are directed, so to speak, exclusively on an axial line at least in such a way that overall an essentially exclusively axial direction results for the flow of the gas.
