Definitions
- the subject of the invention relates to a cleaning product, which is fluid with a low viscosity value in the concentrated state so that it may be pumped and which acquires a viscous form upon the increase of its viscosity when diluted to thereby provide effective cleaning.
- Hygiene is one of the primary factors influencing the human health. Therefore, it is a necessity to provide the ideal hygiene conditions in the bathrooms and toilet rooms in the public spaces and private spaces where the people are present in order to meet their basic needs.
- the ideal hygiene conditions are achieved by way of effective cleaning of the bathrooms and toilet rooms following their use.
- Today, the cleaning of said spaces is performed with the cleaning means that require manual use and/or with the cleaning products that contain the chemicals with various properties.
- the frequency of the cleaning to be performed, the cleaning performance expected from the product, the storage conditions for the product, and the product densities and viscosities affecting these conditions are of significance for the choice of the cleaning products to be employed in the spaces requiring continuous cleaning.
- the non-concentrated viscous cleaning products i.e. the products having a high viscosity value, or the concentrated low-thickness cleaning products, i.e. the products having a low viscosity value
- the non-concentrated high-volume disinfectants containing a small quantity of active disinfectant enable each cleaning process to be realized using a small quantity of disinfectant in the spaces that require continuous cleaning.
- the thickening materials (the agents that increase viscosity) are added to the non-concentrated cleaning products in order to prevent the product from flowing off the surface to be cleaned without performing an effective cleaning.
- the nonconcentrated cleaning products with high viscosity are obtained, which are able to adhere for a longer time on the surfaces to be cleaned to thereby enable the surfaces to be cleaned more effectively and which at the same time enable the use of a small quantity of active ingredient during each cleaning process.
- Said cleaning products adhere for a longer time on the surfaces to be cleaned and thus, enable a more effective and thorough cleaning for the entire surface by using a small quantity of active ingredient.
- some facilities such as hotels requiring continuous industrial cleaning lack the storage areas with sufficient size to store the high- volume cleaning products such as diluted disinfectants.
- the concentrated non-viscose toilet cleaning products diluted at 10% are commercially available.
- viscosity is one of the properties of a fluid cleaning product that affects the cleaning performance.
- the concentrated products used according to the state of the art despite containing a high quantity of cleaning agent and/or anti-limescale agent, are not able to adhere on the surface for a time sufficient to ensure effective cleaning as they lack the viscosity required to provide effective cleaning and are not able to provide a cleaning as effective as that provided by the viscous products as they rapidly flow off the inner surface of the toilet during the use.
- the concentrated cleaning products developed with the purpose of meeting said need are obtained by way of dissolving the active ingredients in a low quantity of solvent and are easy to store owing to their small volume.
- the cleaning performance of the cleaning product increases with increasing concentration of the active disinfectant in the cleaning product; however, this at the same time increases the cost of the product and the toxic and corrosive effects on the living beings. While the use of a product containing a high quantity of disinfectant in the spaces that require frequent cleaning provides ease of storage, they are required to be diluted during the use as they adversely impact the human health. Further, the product is required to have an ideal viscosity to enable the same to adhere on the surface to achieve effective cleaning.
- a toilet cleaning product has been developed wherein said cleaning product has its viscosity increased and becomes viscous when diluted so that it can provide more effective cleaning and is in liquid form when in concentrated state so that it can be pumped.
- the cleaning product according to the invention When in the concentrated state, the cleaning product according to the invention is in fluid form of low viscosity so that it can be pumped.
- the product Upon being diluted, the product acquires thickness and its viscosity increases.
- the cleaning product according to the invention is preferably used byway of being diluted at 5%. Accordingly, the product is also advantageous in that it enables a reduction in the storage area in addition to providing effective cleaning.
- the cleaning product according to the invention Owing to the cleaning product according to the invention becoming viscous when diluted, it displays high cleaning performance and achieves effective cleaning by successfully adhering during the use on the surfaces to be cleaned. Owing to the product's being supplied and stored in concentrated state and used by way of dilution, the useful life of the product is prolonged as compared to the non-concentrated products used in the state of the art. This enables greater quantities of disinfectant-containing products to be stored in a storage area and accordingly, the products to become depleted after longer time periods. It is further aimed to supply the desired quantity of products by a smaller number of shipments and hence provide contribution to the less fuel consumption, the control of the greenhouse gases and the sustainability.
- An object of the invention is to develop a cleaning product, which is fluid and concentrated so that it can be easily pumped, is supplied and stored in this state and thus eliminates the need for greater storage areas and enables greater quantity of active disinfectants to be stored in the currently available storage areas.
- Another object of the invention is to develop a cleaning product, which is able to be brought into viscous form by way of dilution prior to use, thereby reducing the adverse effects of the disinfectants on the human health and environmental health as well as providing an effective cleaning by adhering on the surfaces to be cleaned.
- Table 3 Compositions According to the Invention Comprising Acids and Surfactants
- the subject of the invention relates to a cleaning product, which is fluid with a low viscosity value in the concentrated state so that it may be pumped and which acquires a viscous form upon the increase of its viscosity when diluted to thereby provide effective cleaning.
- the cleaning product according to the invention comprises at least one type of acid for use as an anti-limescale agent and at least one surfactant for reducing the surface tension of the product to thereby enable the same to better spread on the surfaces and better clean the uneven surfaces.
- the selected surfactant is at the same time a surfactant having the feature of enabling the product to be in fluid form while in concentrated state and enabling a viscous form to be obtained upon an increase in the viscosity of the same when diluted.
- the solutions comprising at least one acid compound selected from the above-mentioned compounds of phosphoric acid, citric acid, formic acid, hydrochloric acid, oxalic acid and methanesulfonic acid were prepared for the purpose of observing the effects.
- the diluted acid solutions were denoted by the letter "S".
- the anti-limescale performances of the obtained solutions were evaluated and the acid compound with the ideal anti-limescale performance and its usage ratio by weight were determined as a result of the evaluations made.
- the information about the prepared solutions is provided in the table below.
- the information includes the INCI names of the acid compounds to be tested, pKa values giving information about the degree of acidity of the compounds, and the acid compound and deionized water contents of the prepared solutions in percentages by weight. Since the acids with a low pKa value are stronger acids as compared to the acids with a high pKa value, the pKa values and the user needs were taken into consideration when choosing the acids to be tested.
- Table 1 Acidity Constant Values of the Acid Compounds the Anti-Limescale Performances of Which Are To Be Tested Within the Scope of the Invention
- Table 2 Dilute Acid Solutions the Anti-Limescale Performances of Which Are To Be Tested
- the lime test was conducted on the marble cubes.
- the solution SI when in the diluted state remained insufficient in removing the limescale. Due to the significant corrosive effect of hydrochloric acid, it was not considered appropriate to increase the acidity by way of increasing the ratio of hydrochloric acid in the solution.
- the ratios of the acid compounds contained in the solution S2-S3 turned out inadequate and thus, the antilimescale performances of these solutions remained low. Because citric acid and formic acid are weak acids, it was considered appropriate to prefer stronger acids as the acid compounds and accordingly, to prepare the solutions comprising stronger acids as the acid compounds, for obtaining the cleaning products used in the industrial areas.
- the anti-limescale performances of the solutions S4-S7 prepared by the use of phosphoric acid as the acid with anti-limescale characteristic were considered sufficient and consequently, phosphoric acid was chosen as the acid compound to be used in the cleaning products to be prepared.
- the surfactants enable the surface tension of the cleaning product to be reduced and thus enable the same to better spread over the surface and effectively clean the uneven surfaces in particular. Accordingly, the surfactants selected from C9-C11 oxo alcohol ethoxylates, oleylamine alcohol ethoxylates, C16-18 and C18 unsaturated ethoxylate mixtures and isotridecanol ethoxylate may be used as the surfactant in the cleaning products. Said surfactants are able to reduce the surface tension; however, they fall short in enabling the cleaning product to be fluid when in the concentrated state and/or to become viscous upon being diluted. For this reason, it is necessary to use within the scope of the invention the surfactants that will not provide thickness to the cleaning product in a highly acidic medium but will be able to provide thickness in a less acidic medium as the acidity will decrease when the product is diluted.
- At least one surfactant was determined, said surfactant enabling the cleaning product to be fluid when in concentrated state, while enabling the same to become viscous when diluted preferably at a ratio of 5-8%.
- at least one surfactant selected from a hydrotrope compound or amines, C12-16-alkyldimethyl, N-oxides or amines, C12-18-alkyldimethyl, N-oxides or 2- hydroxyethyl amine oxide compounds was used as the surfactant.
- said hydrotrope compound is preferably sodium xylene sulfonate.
- the compositions comprising phosphoric acid or more than one acid compound in combinations and/or at varying proportions provided that at least one of said acid compounds is phosphoric acid were prepared.
- the compositions were denoted by the letter "K" referring to the word composition.
- the obtained products were subjected to viscosity measurements and cleaning performance evaluations and whether the products had the desired properties was tested.
- the composition/s having a surface tension value of maximum 28-30 mN/m and a high anti-limescale performance and acquiring an ideal viscosity value of 40-100 cps and an ideal cleaning performance when diluted at 5-8% was/were determined.
- compositions Kl-14 were prepared in a way to contain at least one acid compound at a suitable ratio and at least one surfactant at a suitable ratio basically taking the acid trial results given in Table 2 into account.
- the information about the compositions prepared by using varying proportions of said compounds are provided below in tabular form; said information includes the INCI names of the acid compounds, the surfactants used and their ratios by weight in the prepared compositions.
- Table 3 Compositions According to the Invention Comprising Acids and Surfactants
- the concentrated composition KI which was the first solution prepared, was not fluid when in concentrated state and its viscosity was measured above the ideal values.
- the compositions K2-K4 were prepared in order to obtain a composition having ideal viscosity values and the viscosities of the prepared compositions were measured below the ideal values after being diluted at 5-8%.
- the prepared composition K5 became slightly viscous when diluted at 5-8%, but it was necessary to increase the viscosity to achieve effective cleaning. No precipitation was observed in the composition K6.
- composition K8 containing phosphoric acid and formic acid in addition to phosphoric acid was not fluid when in the concentrate state and further, its viscosity was measured below the ideal values when diluted at 5-8%.
- the composition K9 containing formic acid in addition to phosphoric acid became slightly viscous when diluted at 5-8%.
- the composition K10 containing formic acid and citric acid in addition to phosphoric acid became slightly viscous when diluted at 5-8% and the viscosity of this composition was measured to be lower than the viscosity of the composition K9.
- compositions K11-K12 prepared to contain phosphoric acid at a ratio of 55-65% by weight as the acid compound were evaluated to be slightly viscous and viscous, respectively, when diluted at 5-8% and it was observed that they did not have the ideal viscosity value.
- the composition K13 prepared by the use of "amines, C12-18-alkyldimethyl, N-oxides" at the same ratio instead of "amines, C12-16-alkyldimethyl, N-oxides” as the surfactant was turbid when in the concentrated state. Because the turbid nature of the composition K13 could lead to problems in terms of the stabilization of the product, the composition K13 was not preferred.
- composition K14 in concentrated state which contained 55-65% by weight phosphoric acid as the acid compound and was prepared by varying the surfactant proportions as compared to the former compositions, was measured to have an ideal viscosity value of 40- 100 cps and an ideal surface tension value of maximum 28-30 mN/m when diluted at 5-8%. Consequently, the composition K14, having high viscosity and achieving effective surface cleaning, was observed to satisfy the ideal conditions.
- the composition according to the invention was developed using the data obtained within the scope of this study.
- the product according to the invention developed as a result of the studies conducted within the scope of the invention comprises 55-65% by weight at least one acid compound with the anti-limescale property and at least one surfactant with the feature of enabling the product to be fluid while in concentrated state and to acquire a thick, viscous form when diluted to thereby provide an effective cleaning performance.
- Said surfactant is used preferably at a ratio of 9-20% by weight and the use of 2-hydroxyethyl amine oxide is preferred.
- said surfactant is 2-hydroxyethyl amine oxide and is used at a ratio of 9-12% by weight.
- a preferred embodiment of the invention additionally comprises at least one other surfactant.
- Said surfactant is used preferably at a ratio of 0.1-0.3% by weight and is preferably amines, C12-16-alkyldimethyl, N-oxides.
- a preferred embodiment of the invention additionally comprises at least one other surfactant.
- Said surfactant is used preferably at a ratio of 0.6-1.5% by weight and is preferably a hydrotrope compound.
- Said hydrotrope compound is preferably sodium xylene sulfonate.
- the cleaning product comprises 0.6-1% by weight at least one perfuming agent (essence), preferably a perfuming agent with citrus quality not adversely affecting the viscosity.
- the cleaning product in a preferred embodiment of the invention comprises 0.000002-0.00004% by weight at least one type of dyeing agent, preferably a blue dye that is rapidly dissolving and does not undergo color change under the conditions of stability.
- the cleaning product according to the invention additionally comprises the water in a quantity sufficient to complement the product to 100% by weight.
- the cleaning product according to the invention is a concentrated toilet cleaning product used for cleaning the toilets.
- the invention further relates to a method for the use of said cleaning product, said method comprising the process step of diluting the cleaning product at 5-8%, preferably at %5, during the use of said cleaning product for the cleaning process.
- the obtained products are offered to the users preferably in 1.5-liter cartridges and they are used by being diluted at 5-8%, preferably at %5, via the automatic dilution machines installed at the zone of use.
- the diluted products are placed in preferably refillable and reusable bottles, thereby ensuring that less packaging material is delivered to recycling.
- the effective cleaning will be provided for the dirty surfaces, it will be possible to store a greater quantity of disinfectant in the storage areas dedicated to the cleaning products in the spaces requiring industrial cleaning and the need for the wider storage areas and/or a great number of storage areas will be eliminated.
- the cleaning product has low viscosity to allow pumping when in the concentrated state and, when diluted at 5-8%, preferably at %5, for use, its viscosity increases and becomes thick. In this way, a more effective cleaning is achieved and a more hygienic surface is enabled to be obtained.
