  • LED lighting devices are particularly popular in the automotive industry. When supplying power to LEDs, however, it should be noted that their forward voltages take on different values depending on the operating temperature. For example, the forward voltage of an LED emitting red light is around 1.5 volts to 1.6 volts when warm or hot, while it can have a value of around 2.2 volts when cold. The forward voltage, which decreases by around 0.6 volts during operation, must therefore be compensated for in the voltage supply of the LED and its power source, which are connected in series.
