Abstract

Temp. of sulphate black liquor (I) from a cellulose cook is raised above its cooking temp. to split the macromolecular lignin fraction in (I). - Pref. temp. of (I) is raised to 170-190 deg.C for 1-5 mins. and a polysulphide or sulphur redn. agent is added to (I) to intensify splitting. Temp. can be raised immediately after the cook, in the cooking process circulation loop or just before final evapn. Temp. can be raised by direct or indirect steam or electric heating.
