Abstract

Process for obtaining polyester yarn, and a yarn of polyester filaments obtained using the said process. This is a process for the manufacture of a yarn of smooth dimensionally stable filaments showing little shrinkage which starts from a polyester POY. The polyester POY is drawn cold with a drawing ratio of between 1.8 and 2.5 and is then relaxed with an advance of approximately 3 to 10%. This yields a yarn with an initial modulus of between 600 and 1200 cN/tex, a reversibility limit of > 8 cN/tex and an elasticity of < 20%. It can be used as a high strength polyester yarn in all applications in which dimensional stability is required.
