Abstract
Process for the preparation of new non-ionic contrast media. A process for the preparation of new non-ionic iodated contrast media of formula 1 in which R is -CH2CH2OH or -CH2CH(OH)-CH2-OCH3. The process comprises reacting 2,4,6-triiodo-5-amino-isophthalic acid chloride with methoxyacetyl chloride to yield a dichloride of formula 3 which is treated with 3-amino-1,2-propanediol and triethylamine to yield a diamide of formula 4 which can be reacted with a 2-hydroxyethyl halide or alternatively with 3-chloro-1-methoxy-2-propanol to yield compounds of formula 1. The compounds of formula 1 are non-ionic iodated compounds useful in radiological diagnosis.
