LOS RESIDUOS A LOS QUE SE PUEDE APLICAR EL PROCESO SON RESIDUOS VEGETALES O ANIMALES, RESIDUOS INDUSTRIALES O SEMIINDUSTRIALES QUE CONTENGAN MATERIA ORGANICA, COMO ALPECHINES, ORUJOS, BAGAZO, ETC. EL PROCESO SE LLEVA A CABO EN CONDICIONES CONTROLADAS DE OXIGENACION, PH, TEMPERATURA, HUMEDAD, INSOLACION, ETC.
