PARA LA ETAPA QUIMICA SE EMPLEA SULFATO FERRICO A BAJA CONCENTRACION COMO AGENTE LIXIVIANTE. PARA LA ETAPA BIOLOGICA, CUYO OBJETIVO ES LA OXIDACION Y REGENERACION DEL LICOR LIXIVIANTE PARA TRANSFORMAR EL ION FERROSO EN ION FERRICO Y RECICLAR DICHO LICOR AL REACTOR DE LIXIVIACION, SE EMPLEAN PELICULAS BACTERIANAS DE THIOBACILLUS FERROOXIDANS SOPORTADAS EN SOLIDO INERTE.
