PARA LA ETAPA QUIMICA SE EMPLEA SULFATO FERRICO A BAJA CONCENTRACION COMO AGENTE LIXIVIANTE. PARA LA ETAPA BIOLOGICA, CUYO OBJETIVO ES LA OXIDACION Y REGENERACION DEL LICOR LIXIVIANTE PARA TRANSFORMAR EL ION FERROSO EN ION FERRICO Y RECICLAR DICHO LICOR AL REACTOR DE LIXIVIACION, SE EMPLEAN PELICULAS BACTERIANAS DE THIOBACILLUS FERROOXIDANS SOPORTADAS EN SOLIDO INERTE. EL PROCESO PERMITE LA EXTRACCION TOTAL DEL COBRE CONTENIDO EN LA MENA, OBTENIENDOSE UN LICOR DE LIXIVIACION CON TODA LA CARGA DE COBRE Y UNA CONCENTRACION DE SULFATO FERRICO TAN BAJA COMO LA INICIALMENTE USADA, DE MODO QUE PUEDE SER TRATADO SIN DIFICULTAD MEDIANTE EXTRACCION CON DISOLVENTES Y ELECTROLISIS PARA LA OBTENCION DE COBRE CATODO.
