EL PROCESO SE LLEVA A CABO MEDIANTE UN VASO DE REACCION SIMPLE MEDIANTE EL QUE UN ACETAL DISUELTO EN ACETONITRILO, EN PRESENCIA DE UN CATALIZADOR ACIDO, SE HIDROLIZA CON EL HEMIACETAL RELACIONADO QUE RELACIONA ENTONCES DIRECTAMENTE CON EL ERITROCIMILAMINO PARA FORMAR DIRITROMICINA CRISTALINA.
