LA GENERACION DE VOLATILES A PARTIR DE MATERIALES LIQUIDOS O SOLIDOS, ES AUMENTADA Y ACELERADA POR EXPOSICION A RADIACION DE MICROONDAS. NORMALMENTE LA TRANSFERENCIA DE ENERGIA SE EFECTUA CON PREFERENCIA HACIA LOS MATERIALES LIQUIDOS O SOLIDOS ENCIMA DE LOS VOLATILES GASEOSOS GENERADOS. SE PROPORCIONA ENERGIA SUFICIENTE A UN REGIMEN SELECCIONADO QUE AUMENTA LA GENERACION DE VOLATILES PARA PRODUCIR MUESTRAS EN UN ESPACIO DE CABEZA. ALTERNATIVAMENTE, EL REGIMEN PUEDE SER SELECCIONADO DE TAL MODO COMO PARA ROMPER EL EQUILIBRIO NORMALMENTE PRESENTE ENTRE LAS FASES LIQUIDA O SOLIDA Y LA FASE GAEOSA Y PRODUCIR MUESTRAS DE PURGA Y SIFON; ESTE ULTIMO PROCESO RESULTA DE LA TRANSFERENCIA SELECTIVA DE ENERGIA HACIA LA FASE LIQUIDA O SOLIDA SOBRE LA FASE GASEOSA.
