DICHO PROCEDIMIENTO CONSISTE EN HACER PASAR UN VAPOR DE OLEFINAS DE 2 A 8 ATOMOS DE CARBONO, QUE CONTENGAN IMPUREZAS ACETILENICAS CON CONTENIDO DE CARBONO IGUAL O SIMILAR Y, OPCIONALMENTE, GASES HIDROCARBONADOS SATURADOS, A TRAVES DE UN LECHO PARTICULADO DE ADSORBENTE QUE COMPRENDE PREDOMINANTEMENTE UN MATERIAL DE SOPORTE CON UN AREA SUPERFICIAL ELEVADA, SOBRE LA CUAL SE DISPERSA AL MENOS UN ELEMENTO METALICO.
