Procedure for preparing new N-heterocyclic compounds of the general formula **(See formula)** in which they mean X the ethylene or vinylene groups -CH2-CH2- or, respectively, -CH = CH-, Y and Z hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atoms, and Y and Z may have a different meaning from each other, but if the meaning is the same, preferably the same relative position with respect to the nitrogen atom, R1 and R2 are low molecular weight alkyl radicals, which may also be linked to each other directly or by means of an oxygen atom, and R3 hydrogen or a low molecular weight alkyl radical, as well as its salts and quaternary ammonium compounds, which is characterized by reacting a functional derivative reacting with an N-carboxylic acid of the general formula **(See formula)** in which X, Y and Z have the meaning indicated above, and in particular chloride, bromide or a low molecular weight ester, with an N, N-bisubstituted or N, N, N'-trisubstituted ethylenediamine of the formula general **(See formula)** in which R1, R2 and R3 have the meaning indicated above, and transform the reaction product obtained, if desired, by treatment with an inorganic or organic acid in a salt, or by reaction with a reactable ester of an aliphatic alcohol or araliphatic in a quaternary ammonium compound.
