Abstract
Method for the preparation of thiaxanthenes of the formula: ** (See formula) ** wherein R represents hydrogen, halogen or a methoxyl group and salts thereof by the addition of acid, characterized by reacting thiaxanthones of the formula: ** (See formula) ** wherein R has the above meaning, with an allylmagnesium halide, by subjecting the thus formed Grignard compound to hydrolysis and reacting the resulting carbinol with a hydrogen halide and then reacting the halogenated compound formed with dimethylamine, after which, the thiaxanthene formed is isolated from the reaction mixture in the form of the free base or in the form of a salt by the addition of acid and, in the case where R represents halogen or a methoxyl group, the trans isomer is isolated by crystallization fractionated (Machine-translation by Google Translate, not legally binding)
