Abstract
Process for preparing dibenzocycloheptene derivatives, and especially compounds of the formulas: ** (See formula) ** wherein X is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl, trifluoromethyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkyl sulfonyl, lower alkyl mercapto and lower sulphamoyl dialkyl, which comprises the steps of: (1) reduce a compound of the formulas: ** (See formula) ** where X is in accordance with that defined above, with lithium aluminum hydride in the presence of an inert organic solvento to form the corresponding aminomethyl derivative; (2) treating the product of step (1) with formaldehyde and formic acid, to form the corresponding dimethylaminomethyl derivative; Y (3) alkylate the product of step (2).
