Abstract

Un método para detectar y enumerar células raras en una población de células mezcladas, siendo la presencia de dichas células raras en dicha población indicativa de la severidad de una enfermedad, que comprende: a) Preparar una muestra inmunomagnética en la que una muestra de sangre obtenida de un sujeto de prueba se mezcla con partículas magnéticas, dicha muestra comprende una población de células mezcladas que se cree que contiene dichas células raras y dichas partículas magnéticas se acoplan a un ligando que reacciona específicamente con un determinante de las células raras para la exclusión sustancial de otros componentes de la muestra. b) Poner en contacto dicha muestra inmunomagnética con, al menos, un reactivo que marca un determinante de las células raras; y c) analizar las células raras marcadas para determinar la presencia y el número de cualquiera de las células raras en la muestra inmunomagnética, el mayor número de células raras presentes en dicha muestra, la mayor severidad de la enfermedad, donde la célula de control tiene determinantes en común con las células raras y en la que la membrana de dicha célula de control se encuentra marcada de forma detectable y los componentes celulares y restos antigénicos de la célula de control han sido estabilizados durante un período de hasta seis meses mediante la exposición a un fijador, donde, opcionalmente, dicha célula rara es una célula cancerígena y dicha enfermedad es cáncer.
