Abstract

A suction funnel 19 provided between a circular comb 2 and the detaching rollers 4, 5 of a detaching arrangement has valve means disposed between the funnel mouth and the source of suction to cause reduction of the air flow in the funnel. The valve means may consist of a flap valve 24 or slide valve covering an aperture in lower part 15 of the funnel. Control movement of the flap valve 24 is effected by the detaching arrangement to which the valve is attached by chain 27 and arm 28. The suction is arranged to be at a maximum at the commencement of the approach of the detaching arrangement to the nipper 3. The opening and closing of the means may take place progressively or instantaneously. Deflectors may be mounted level with the mouth of the suction funnel to channel the air in respect of the comb 2.
