Abstract
In a process for coating a web of e.g. steel with a liquid coating material e.g. molten zinc in which the coating is wiped by a transverse jet of fluid, the jet is such that the wiping action is increased adjacent the edges of the web. This may be done either by extending the jet towards the web at its edges or by adjusting the angle of the jet at the edges. As shown in Fig. 3, the extension nozzle is positioned closer to the coated strip 24 than the main nozzle 26. The edges of the strip may be sensed by e.g. a photocell and the nozzles moved into correct position automatically by a cable 44.
