Abstract
A detergent composition comprises (A) an organic surfactant, (B) a proteolytic enzyme and (C) one or more antimicrobial agents selected from pyridine-thione salts, inorganic mercuric compounds containing halogen, inorganic mercuric compounds containing a cyanide group, organic mercury compounds, bis-phenols and salts thereof, halogenated phenols and their salts, halogenated salicylanilides, halogenated phenyl ureas, quaternary ammonium salts, 8-hydroxy-quinoline and salts thereof, boric acid and boric anhydride. Component (A) may be anionic, cationic and non-ionic synthetic detergents and soaps. Preferred enzymes are subtilisins. Optional ingredients are "builders" such as phosphates, polyphosphates, silicates, carbonates, bicarbonates, borates, sulphates and chlorides sequestering agents, e.g. sodium nitrilotriacetate sodium carboxymethylcellulose and polyvinylpyrrolidone.
