Abstract

An internal-combustion engine has an interchangeable cylinder liner 1 with a fixing flange 15 having abutment surfaces clamped between corresponding abutment surfaces on the cylinder block 3 and the cylinder head 2, the abutment surface facing the cylinder block including an annular groove 20 having a cross-section which is bounded by an arc of a circle to which a cylindrical external surface 21 of the liner is tangential to form a smooth transition between the surface of the groove and the external surface. The surface of the ring 22 which cooperates with the abutment surface on the cylinder liner may be covered with a layer of plastically deformable material. The layer may be of soft metal.
