1-Glycosyl.5.azacytosines of the general formula wherein R is a glycosyl residue, R2 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group and R3 and R4 are each a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an aralky] group, are prepared by reaction of a per-acylglycosyl isocyanate of the general formula R5-N=C=O, wherein R5 is a per-acylglycosyl residue, with an acylguanidine of the general formula and subjection of the resulting l-(per-acylglycosyl)-5.azacytosine of the general formula to alcoholysis or ammonolysis.
