Abstract
A balanced, synchronized and balanced asymmetric free piston motor arranged to drive an alternately movable member of an energy absorbing device, characterized in that it comprises, in combination: a single power cylinder having an alternately acting power piston, or corresponding first and second stationary power cylinder sections with alternately acting first and second power piston sections, located for reciprocating movement in the respective first and second power cylinder sections, said power piston being alternately acting or the corresponding first and second parts of the power piston interconnected for reciprocating motion together as parts of a power assembly, in which all parts of the power assembly always move together as a single unit; a synchronizer-compensator assembly having a first movable part connected to move as a unit as part of the power assembly, and further having a second counterbalance balance movable operatively connected to the first movable part for reciprocating movement at all times in opposite direction to the direction of movement of the first moving part and in synchronization with it; and a connection for connecting the movable member of the energy absorbing device alternatively to only the counterbalanced balancing part of the synchronizer-compensator assembly (as opposed to the power assembly), such that the movable member of the energy absorbing device moves as a unit with the counterbalanced balance part of the synchronizer-compensator assembly, and is actuated by forces transmitted from the alternately acting power piston parts through the counterbalanced balance part of the synchronizer-compensator assembly.
