Abstract
A method for effecting catalytic activated reactions of vapor phase reactants, comprising contacting the vapor phase reactants in series with a plurality of honeycomb-like catalyst bodies having gas flow passage channels therethrough, said plurality of honeycomb catalysts being in a certain separation relationship, such that the effluents from the flow passage channels of a catalyst body are mixed before contacting a subsequent body of said catalyst, said plurality being of honeycomb-type catalyst bodies of a thickness of approximately 0.25 to 2.5 centimeters in the direction of the gas flow, and the quotient between the length of said flow passage channels and the square root of the area of their cross section of less than about 20.
