Abstract
A procedure for the preparation of new compounds of 5,7-disubstituted xanthone-2-carboxylic acids of formula: **(See formula)** where one radical E is chlorosulfonyl and the other is lower alkyl or lower alkoxy, the procedure of which is to react a 5-alkyl- or -alkoxy acid or a 7-alkyl- or -alkoxy-xanthone-2-carboxylic acid with acid chlorosulfonic to give the corresponding 5-alkyl- or -alkoxy-7-chlorosulfonyl-xanthone-2-carboxylic acids and 5-chlorosulfonyl-7-alkyl- or -alkoxy-xanthone-2-carboxylic acids, respectively.
