A procedure of deposition of ruthenium metal on a hot substrate, decomposing on said substrate, under a substantially static partial vacuum, steam of a ruthenium complex with a β-dicarbonyl compound of formula R1-CO-CHR2-CO-R3, in which each R1 and R3, which may be the same or different, is an alcohol, haloalkoxy, alkoxy, aryl, or aryl group substituted by alcohol, nitro, or halogen and R2 is a hydrogen atom or an alcohol or haloalcohyl group.
