Abstract

A single-colour needled length of fibre web and at least one other length of fibre web which contrasts in colour, is likewise needled and has on one of its two surfaces ornamentally patterned areas of fibres which are bonded or heat-welded together, are placed one on top of the other and needled together, from the direction of the length of fibre web which has no areas of fibres which are bonded or heat-welded together, to give a nonwoven. The lengths of fibre web to be needled together are laid one on top of the other in such a way that the surface, which has areas of fibres, which are bonded or heat-welded together, of the length(s) of fibre web having such, faces away from the length of fibre web containing no bonded or heat-welded fibres. This produces an ornamental pile structure with contrasting colours on the surface which forms the visible area of the finished nonwoven and has ornamentally patterned regions with bonded or heat-welded fibres.
