Abstract
So that the speed and length of a running band can be measured in a contactless fashion and without leaving traces, marks which disappear without trace after the time required for the measurement are applied to the band (1) and detected by one or more receivers (20, 30). The marks (11) consist of heated spots which are applied locally to the band (1) by a heat source (10) and to which a thermally sensitive receiver (20, 30) responds.
