Abstract
A process for the preparation of an olefin polymerization catalyst by mixing (a) a magnesium reducing agent obtained by the reaction of a metallic magnesium with an organic halide, (b) an aluminum compound having the formula R''2AlX, where R''is an alkyl radical or an aryl radical having 1 to 12 carbon atoms and X is halogen, and (c) a titanium tetrahalide, the process being characterized in that the reducing agent is prepared by adding the halide Slowly organic to magnesium in the absence of any complexing diluents and because the reducing agent thus obtained is mixed with the aluminum compound prior to the addition of the titanium tetrahalide.
