Abstract
A continuous process for hydroformylating propylene to produce butyraldehydes, which includes the steps of: establishing a liquid body of a homogeneous mixture containing propylene, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, said buteraldehyde products, high-boiling liquid condensation products of said butyraldehydes, a soluble rhodium complex catalyst consisting essentially of rhodium complexing with carbon monoxide and triphenylphosphine, and free triphenylphosphine; feeding the liquid body a gaseous recycle stream containing at least unreacted hydrogen and propylene; feed replacement amounts of carbon monoxide, hydrogen and propylene to the liquid body.
