Abstract
The method comprises the following steps: casting of a first strand (11) with a given first cross sectional format positioning a hot strand coupling with a cross section adapted to a second given strand cross sectional format to weld together with the melt of the first strand (11), lowering the hot strand coupling into a cast-on position by extracting the first strand (11) to the region of the lower edges of the mould walls (1, 2) sealing the hot strand coupling against the mould walls adjusted to the new strand cross sectional format, and after casting-on continuing casting with the second strand of a new format and, if desired, a new chemical composition.
