CONSISTE EN FORMAR UNA PELICULA DE SILICE POR OXIDACION MEDIANTE UN GAS SECO QUE CONTIENE OXIGENO, TAL COMO OXIGENO U OXIGENO DILUIDO EN UN GAS INERTE, A EXCEPCION DEL NITROGENO A TRAVES DE UN ARCO ELECTRICO ALIMENTADO POR UNA TENSION ALTERNATIVA ENTRE 5.000 Y 10.000 VOLTIOS, DE UN COMPUESTO CLORADO DE SILICIO ARRASTRADO POR EL GAS SECO QUE CONTIENE OXIGENO, CUYO CAUDAL ES TAL QUE NO FORMA SILICE AL NIVEL DE LOS ELECTRODOS DEL ARCO. EL CAUDAL DEL GAS PORTADOR QUE CONTIENE OXIGENO Y QUE ARRASTRA EL TETRACLORURO DE SILICIO, QUE SE INTRODUCE EN UNA LAMPARA ESTANDAR, ESTA COMPRENDIDO ENTRE 10 Y 30 LITROS/HORA.
