PROCEDIMIENTO PARA LA OBTENCION DE 6-METILSULFONIL-ESPIRO-(CROMAN-4,4-IMIDAZOLIN)-2,5-DIONA, DE FORMULA (I).CONSISTE EN LA REACCION DE OXIDACION DE LA 6-METILSULFINIL-ESPIRO-(CROMAN-4,4-IMIDAZOLIDIN)-2,5-DIONA, DE FORMULA (II), CON PEROXIDO DE HIDROGENO Y/O METAPERYODATO POTASICO. LA REACCION SE LLEVA A CABO EN UN DISOLVENTE ORGANICO INERTE, TAL COMO METANOL, A TEMPERATURA SUPERIOR A LA AMBIENTE. EL PRODUCTO OBTENIDO SE EXTRAE CON ACETATO DE ETILO Y SE PURIFICA SIGUIENDO METODOS CONVENCIONALES.ESTOS COMPUESTOS TIENEN APLICACIONES FARMACOLOGICAS PARA EL TRATAMIENTO DE COMPLICACIONES RESULTANTES DE LA DIABETES MELLITUS, COMO CATARATAS, NEUROPATIAS, RETINOPATIAS Y NEFROPATIAS.
