Abstract
The copolymers are prepd by:- dissolving the reacting monomers in a monomer free aqs. emulsion, where the monomers are soluble in aqs. and oily phases; maintaining reaction temp at 50-60% C; adding a second charge of monomers at 3-20 wt.% of the total monomers, where monomer proportions are 88-93 mol % vinylidene chloride and 12-7 mol % of (I) (unsatd monomer). Maintaining reaction temp. at 50-65 degrees C under autogenous pressure, introducing a continuous charge of residual monomers (III) at the end of polymerisation of the second charge before a pressure drop of more than 0.14 kg/cm2 is produced. (II) are added in the same proportions as before and at a rate of 4.5-11.5% of total monomers/hr. continuing reaction until a 50% pressure drop is produced, cooling and purifying the product.
