Abstract

In a first stage of prodn., the basic structure consisting of the hub and the reinforcements for the bolt holes, for an automobile wheel and rim, is stamped out of sheet metal. In a second stage, the body of the rim is cast on by injection moulding. The weight of the wheel is reduced and hubs can be mfd cheaply in large numbers for finishing in a wide range of different aesthetic designs, which have mechanical characteristics comparable with those of wheels made wholly from steel.
