Abstract
Suspended matter is removed from raw and effluent waters by polyaluminates. Concentrates of polyaluminates are prepd. by hydrolysis of Al-salts at pH 4-4.2, using aluminium sulphate and/or chloride solns. with alkaline hydroxide, carbonate or hydrogen-carbonate solns. respectively to produce polyhydroxo-aqua-aluminium (III) complex-cations acid aqua chlorido or sulphato and/or mixed polyaluminate complexes. - Medium strength concentrates are stable and homogeneous for several hours and are added to waters in proportion of 0.5-5:1000. If multivalent anions are present-esp. in effluents - the pptn. of these by meta-chlorides is advisable prior to addn. of Al-concentrates.
