Abstract

[Also in Division E2] A container comprises a pair of opposed side walls, a roof including a first part 7 movable transversely with respect to one of the side walls and carried by a first arm pivotally mounted on said container and a second part 6 movable transversely with respect to the other side wall and carried by a second arm pivotally mounted on said container, and means for resiliently biasing each said arm against movement of the respective roof part transversely with respect to the respective side wall, each of said roof parts including a first and second portion 7a, 7b pivotally interconnected transversely to the direction of movement of the said roof parts, and each of said roof parts including means movable in a guide which is transverse to said side walls. As illustrated the second or outer portion 7b is rigidly connected to support arms 11-13 pivoted at 14-16 on the side wall 1 of the container. The first or inner portion 7a of each part includes at each end a roller 20 which is movable in a guide (19), (Fig. 6, not shown), and which constitutes said movable means. The biasing means comprises torsion bars 17, 18 which are each clamped at one end to the side wall and attached at the other end to the arms 11, 13 respectively. Twisting of the bars during opening of each roof part opposes the weight of that part. Cover plates 10, (21), (Fig. 6, not shown), are provided for protecting the hinges 9 and guides. [GB1174541A]
