Abstract
1,209,849. Compositions comprising orthoalkoxybenzamides. COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO. 15 Feb., 1968 [20 Feb., 1967], No. 7524/ 68. Heading A5B. An analgesic composition in the form of a nebulizer solution or a sublingual tablet comprises an ortho-alkoxybenzamide containing 1-5 carbon atoms in the alkoxy group and a compatible non-toxic carrier which affords rapid and substantially complete absorption of the ortho-alkoxybenzamide by an oral mucous membrane contiguous to the systemic circulatory system when in contact with the same, the carrier being (1) an aqueous mixture of ethanol and propylene glycol, the ethanol content not exceeding 18% by weight of the composition, or (2) a mixture comprising starch and a sweetener and flavour. Other active ingredients such as acetyl salicylic acid, chlorpheniramine, 2-(diphenyl-methoxy)-N,N-dimethylethylamine HCl, isoproterenol, ephedrine, pentobarbital, meprobamate, styramate, chlordiazepoxide HCl, dexamethane sulphate, atropine sulphate and dextromethorphan HBr may also be present.
