Abstract
1280034 Low foam detergent compositions WEST LABORATORIES Inc 25 July 1969 [25 July 1968] 37466/69 Heading C5D A low foam detergent composition comprises (A) a non-ionic surfactant having a molecular weight of from 1800 to 6000 and containing units of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, the molecular weight of the P.O. units being at least 800 and the E.O. units constituting not more than 65% by wt. of the compound, (B) from 5 to 100% by wt. of component (A) of a non-ionic surfactant containing 2 to 25 moles of ethylene oxide per mole of surfactant and having a molecular weight of at least 300 when E.O. is the only alkylene oxide from which it is derived and of at least 1800 when it is derived from both E.O. and propylene oxide, (C) from 1 to 50% by wt. of component (A) of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid and/or aliphatic alcohol, the aliphatic radical(s) having 8 to 18 carbon atoms and, when component (C) is an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, (D) from 1 to 20 times by wt. of component (A) of a mineral acid. Surfactant (B) may be ethoxylated nonyl phenol or alcohol containing 2 to 4 moles of E.O. per mole of surfactant. Component (C) may be capric acid, decyl alcohol or tridecyl alcohol. Optional ingredients are (E) water-soluble solvents e.g. ethanol, ethylene glycol or the butyl ether of ethylene glycol, (F) iodine, (G) hydroxy organic acids e.g. citric acid, (H) alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxides, alkali metal silicates, phosphates or carbonates.
