Abstract
1286844 Paper-like polyethylene film FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 21 Aug 1969 [21 Aug 1968 19 Feb 1969] 41829/69 Heading B5B Tubular high-density polyethylene film having a rough surface and being generally similar to paper is produced by extrusion with subsequent cooling to a temperature 3-80‹ C. above the crystallite melting point, the film being thereafter inflated and simultaneously drawn off, both at a ratio of 1 : 4 to 1 : 10, whilt it cools and crystallizes, whereby orientation, stretching and crystallization take place simultaneously. Cooling may be effected with air ring 6 having insertions 5 internally for even distribution of air supplied by conduit 7. Bars 4 are arranged to convert the tube into rectangular shape. A film of 5-50 Á thickness may be prepared. The polymer may be of density 0À94-0À97 g./c.c. with a M.W. of 60,000-500,000.
