Abstract

1387996 Feeding sheets AIRFIX INDUSTRIES Ltd 2 May 1972 [6 May 1971] 13526/71 Heading B8R Laterally aligned with each mould chamber of an injection moulding machine is an annular cavity 2, Fig. 1, defined by a circular bore in a body 1 and an inner core 3, the cavity having an aperture 4 communicating with a sheet guideway 5. A sheet introduced into the guideway 5 falls by gravity through the aperture 4 and is then fed into the cavity and round the core 3 by a further member 9, Figs. 1 and 3, mounted pivotally on a guide member 10 slidable in a channel 11. In its upper position, the pusher is swung clear of the path of the next sheet by the end part 16 of a cam channel 14. The pusher 4 is also pivotable so as to engage an oblique trailing end of a sheet 20, Fig. 2. The upper end of the guideway 5 is provided with guide lips 21, Fig. 4. The pusher 9 is reciprocated by a connecting member 12. A similar feed mechanism is provided for each of the cavities 2. When a sheet has been fed into the cavity 2, it is ejected laterally by ejector bars 8 guided in grooves 6, 7 in the cavity wall and the core. In another form, the guideways 5 are horizontal, and the sheets are fed therealong by inclined air blasts on both sides of the guideways, alone or in combination with pushers as described above.
