Abstract

1457040 Cross-lamination of parallel cord layers INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 25 Jan 1974 [29 Jan 1973] 03580/74 Heading B5N A laminate of two layers of rubberized fabric comprising parallel reinforcing elements is made by positioning continuous strips on to support surfaces 16, 17 so that the free ends abut against surfaces 14, 15 which are parallel to the reinforcement and one or both longitudinal edges engage one or more surfaces 18, 19; cutting the strips into layer form; and superimposing the supported layers such that the reinforcement directions cross. As shown, slots 20, 21 guide the cutting means and superposition is achieved by rotating the supports 16, 17 about a hinge 5, the layers being maintained in position by suction or magnetic means. One layer may be wider than the other. The reinforcement may be synthetic or natural textile, steel or glass cords. The layers may be superposed with the rubber in uncured form. The ends of each layer are butt-spliced on a supporting saddle (Fig. 5, not shown) to produce a tyre breaker ring. [GB1457040A]
