Abstract
1507846 Inhibiting dental caries PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 6 Aug 1975 [9 Aug 1974 1 April 1975 6 June 1975] 32874/75 Heading A5B A composition which inhibits the formation of dental plaque, caries and calculus is of pH 4.5 - 9.0 and comprises (A) 0.01 - 2.5 weight % of a bis-guanide of formula: wherein A and A' are C 1-12 alkyl, C 4-1 alicyclic or substituted with up to two C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy groups, a nitro group or a halogen atom; X and X' are C 1-3 alkylene, z and z' are 0 or 1, R and R' are H. C 1-12 alkyl or C 7-12 aralkyl, n is 2 - 12 and wherein the polymethylene chain (CH 2 ) n can be interrupted by 1 - 5 oxygen atoms, sulphur atoms or phenylene or naphthylene groups or a salt thereof and (B) 0.10 - 1.25 weight % in excess of that which will react with A of a chelator compound selected from kojic acid, maltol, ethylmaltol, calcium dihydrogen ethylene diamine tetraacetate, ethylene diamine diacetic acid and the di - N - substituted ethylene diamine diacetic acids wherein the substituents are methyl, ethyl or 2 - hydroxyethyl and salts thereof. The composition may be in the form of a dentifrice or mouthwash. It may also include a fluoride, abrasive, surface active agent, sweetner, flavouring, pH adjuster, ethanol or glycerol.
