Abstract

In order to enlarge the usable switching path and in order to define the switching temperature more precisely, the bimetallic component (which is in the form of a plate) has an opening (14) into which a switching tongue (12) projects which is free at one end. The latter is arranged essentially centrally in a dome-like region whose curvature reverses, with a snap-action effect, when the temperature changes. The inner circumferential line and curved sections of the outer circumferential line of the opening (14) are connected in a flowing manner to rounded ends of the opening (14), to be precise close to the root (18) of the tongue. The width (g) (which is measured essentially radially from the centre of the dome-like region) of said dome-like region is larger in the region of the root (18) of the tongue than in the other part of the region. The length of the tongue (12) is greater than the tongue width, measured at the point halfway along the length of the tongue.
