Abstract
A polish composition comprises an emulsifier, a texture modifier, a thickener, an emulsion, an acrylic resin and water. In a preferred embodiment, the emulsion and the acrylic resin are present in a ratio in the range 1:0.35 to 0.45. The thickener is preferably present in the range 0.62 to 0.64 weight of the total composition.
Description
RENOVATING POLISH COMPOSITION
This invention relates to a renovating polish composition. In particular it relates to a renovating polish composition for shoes.
Renovating polishes for shoes are well known. Generally speaking, such polishes cover scratches and marks on shoes. Each polish type is manufactured from a variety of chemical constituents of which one is white spirit. As shoes are more frequently manufactured from synthetic materials such as plastics, a difficulty has arisen in that renovating polishes which contain white spirit can have an adverse effect on such shoes. Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a renovating polish composition which does not have such an adverse effect while at the same time retaining the positive characteristics and benefit of the conventional polishes.
The invention, therefore comprises a polish composition primarily for shoes which comprise an emulsifier, a texture modifier, a thickener, an emulsion, an acrylic resin and water.
The texture modifier preferably comprises an aqueous dispersion of polyacrylic acid having the appearance of a white relatively low viscosity (less than 200 mPa.s) dispersion with a pH of approximately 2-4 and a non-volatile contentof37 ±1%.
The emulsion preferably comprises a fine, particle size, aqueous dispersion of oxidised polyethylene waxes and paraffin waxes which is film forming at room temperature, is a soft and easily buffable film and has a non-volatile content of between 39-41%; a pH value of between 8.5 and 9.5; a viscosity at 25% (iso-dis 2555 Brookfield) of up to 1000 mPa.s and a density of approximately 0.90 kg/dnA The acrylic resin preferably comprises an aqueous polyacrylate dispersion having a non-volatile content of 36% ± 1 %; a particle v t
size of approximately O.lgm; a pH of between 9 and 10; a viscosity at 25°C;

The texture modifier is preferably isopropyl alcohol. A preservative is preferably used which may be of any suitable type but most preferably is actizide.
The emulsion and the acrylic resin are present in a ratio in the range
1:0.35-0.45 and most preferably 1:0.40.
The thickener is present in the range of 0.62-0.64 weight % of the total composition and most preferably 0.63 weight % of the total composition.
To manufacture the polish the following Example procedure is followed. To approximately 75% of the total water content is added the texture modifier in the form of isopropyl alcohol and the combination stirred at about 400 RPM. To the resulting mixture is added (in the following order) the preservative, emulsion, acrylic resin, a further emulsion, tributoxyethyl phosphate, and the emulsifier. The tributoxyethyl phosphate acts as a coalescent and aids in the formation of a film on the shoe.
This well stirred mixture is known as Phase 1.
Phase 2 comprises the remaining water and the thickener which are combined with relatively gently stirring.
To manufacture the final product, approximately 75% of Phase 2 is added to Phase 1 and stirred for about ten minutes. The resulting combination is then packaged in an appropriate fashion for use as a shoe renovating polish composition.
Claims (5)
1. A polish composition which comprises an emulsifier, a texture modifier, a thickener, an emulsion, an acrylic resin and water.
2. A polish composition as claimed in claim 1 wherein the emulsion and the acrylic resin are present in a ratio in the range 1:0.35-0.45 and most preferably 1:0.40. 10
3. A polish composition as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein the thickener is present in the range of 0.62-0.64 weight % of the total composition and most preferably 0.63 weight % of the total composition.
4. A polish composition substantially as hereinbefore described.
5. A method of manufacturing a polish composition in accordance with the Example.
