Abstract

An office building construction (10) comprising a first and second floor area (12, 17). The first floor area (12) is connected to the second floor area (17) adjacent one end of the second floor area (17). The main axes of the floor areas (12, 17) are disposed perpendicularly to one another. The first floor area (12) includes means for communicating laterally with other floor areas and the second floor area (17) includes means for communicating with other overlying and underlying floor areas. The remainder of the first and second floor areas (12, 17) including a plurality of workstation modules (25).

Description

The present invention relates to an office building construction.
According to the present invention there is provided an office building construction conqprising a first and second floor area; said first floor area being connected to said second floor area adjacent one end of said second floor area; the main axes of said floor areas being disposed perpendicularly to one another; said first floor area including means for communicating laterally with other floor areas and said second floor area including means for communicating with other overlying and underlying floor areas; the remainder of said first and second floor areas including a plurality of workstation modules.
Preferably, said first floor area is substantially rectangular in shape and said second floor area is substantially octagonal in shape.
More preferably, said communication means and said workstation modules communicate via a substantially T-shaped corridor running substantially along the main axes of said first and second floor areas.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a plan view of an office building construction according to the invention.
Referring now to the drawing, there is shown an office building construction generally indicated at 10 $65654 - 2 according to the invention. The office building construction 10 comprises a substantially rectangular first floor area 12 defined by a front, rear, left and right side walls 13, 14, 15 and 16 respectively. The front and rear walls 13, 14 are longer than the left and right side walls 15, 16 so that the main axis of the first floor area 12 lies parallel to the front and rear walls 13, 14.
A second floor area 17 is defined by left and right side walls 18, 19 which run substantially parallel to one another, and a front and rear annex 20, 21 which are substantially semi-hexagonal in shape. The left and right side walls 18, 19 are joined at their front and rear ends by the front and rear annexes 20, 21 respectively. The second floor area 17 is substantially the shape of an elongated octagon with its main axis running parallel to the left and right side walls 18, 19.
The left side wall 15 of the first floor area 12 is connected to the right side wall 19 of the second floor area 17 adjacent the rear annex 21 so that the main axes of the first and second floor areas 12, 17 are substantially perpendicular to one another. Typically, the left side wall 15 is approximately half the length of the right side wall 19.
The first and second floor areas 12, 17 communicate via a first corridor 22. The first corridor 22 runs longitudinally along the length of the first floor area 12 from the right side wall 16 and extends into the second floor area 17. The first corridor 22 intersects a second corridor 23 which runs longitudinally along the length of the second floor area between the front and rear annexes 20, 21. Together, the first and second corridors 22, 23 form a substantially T-shaped network.
The first floor area 12 has a doorway 28 in the right $ side wall 16 which enables the first floor area 12 to . communicate with other adjacent floor areas (not shown).
The second floor area 17 has a stairwell 29 and a plurality of lift shafts 30 disposed adjacent the intersection of the first and second corridors 22, 23.
The second floor area 17 can thus communicate with other overlying and underlying floor areas (not shown).
A plurality of workstation groups 24 are located adjacent the front and rear walls 13, 14 of the first floor area 12 and the left side wall 18 of the second .15 floor area 17. Each workstation group 24 comprises four workstation modules 25 and a substantially 'I' shaped partition member 26. Two workstation modules 25 are located on either side of the partition member 26.
The remainder of the first and second floor areas 12, 17 is occupied by offices 27 and workstation modules 25.
The offices 27, workstation groups 24, workstation modules 25 and doorway 28 communicate via the first and second corridors 22 and 23.
