Abstract

The ink jet printing machine produces a selected symbol consisting of a number of strokes, these in turn being composed of a number of dots each formed by an ink drop. The successive drops are charged so as to deflect them electrically to produce the symbol. Each stroke of the selected symbol has a separate code, and each dot in it has a drop code determining the amount for which the drop is charged to print at the desired point. The drop codes of the selected symbol are stored in a storage unit, and the stroke codes for it generated in succession, causing the drop codes to be read off from the storage unit and used to charge the drops as necessary.
