CONSTITUTION:To an auxiliary storage device 8 for soft-overlay stored with softoverlay data, a soft-overlay buffer 4 divided into the 1st and 2nd soft-overlay buffers 41 and 42 is connected and the buffers 41 and 42 are connected selectively to the device 8 and a front memory 5 for overlay. The reading and writing of the buffers 41 and 42 are performed repeatedly by turns and readout character codes are converted into character patterns, which are set in a one-line pattern buffer 6 for overlay.
