Abstract

A reflector for a vehicle headlight in which the sections of the reflecting surface with meridian semiplanes passing through the axis of the headlight include segments of the parabola, all having a common focus and equal parameter, possess the characteristic that at least the greater part of the segments of the parabola has an axis that forms a non-zero angle with the axis of the headlight. Moreover, at least the greater part of the pairs of parabola segments included in sections of the reflecting surface made with pairs of opposite meridian semiplanes can have axes that for both of the segments of the parabola of the pair form different angles with respect to the axis of the headlight. The equation that defines the segment of the parabola of the formed part of a generic section of the headlights is: m2.cos2G - 2.m.z.sin G.cos G + z2.sin2G = 4f2(z.cos G + m.sin G + f) in which the angle G is generally different from zero. The value of G can also be chosen different for the opposite semiplane. With these criteria it is possible to produce high beam and low beam headlights of non-circular profile and low beam headlights of high output. <IMAGE>
